The Battle of Saipan marked a turning point in World War II. After the US capture of the island from the Japanese army and subsequent capture of Tinian, the US was able to launch B-29 bombers to attack Japan. Eventually, the Enola Gay took off from Tinian's runway Able, dropped a bomb on Hiroshima, which brought about Japan's surrender four days later. Many war buffs and tourists who visit Saipan wish to take away some memento of their unique war tour. This iconic photo of the landing on Red Beach adorns items frequently used at home and in the office.
