Where is Saipan?

Asia-Pacific Map

Located in the western pacific, a short flight from Guam and 3 hours from Japan, the Commonwealth of the Northern Mariana Islands (CNMI) is a popular tourist destination rich in history, culture and natural resources. Saipan, just 5 miles wide by 12 miles long, is the largest and most populated of the 14 islands making up an archipelago that stretches 400 miles (north to south) along the edge of the Marianas Trench.

About Tinian

Tinian is about 5 miles (8 km) southwest of its sister island, Saipan, from which it is separated by the Saipan Channel. It has a land area of 39 sq.mi. (101.01 km²). Tinian's largest village is San Jose. The island has a variety of flora and fauna, and limestone cliffs and caves.

Historically, it was from Tinian that the bombers Enola Gay and Bockscar from the 509th Composite Group carrying the atomic bombs Little Boy and Fat Man were launched against Hiroshima and Nagasaki. Remains of the US bomber base and Atom Bomb Pits, and the remains of Japanese fortifications, can be found at North Field. There is a memorial on the old airfield at the loading pits. Saipan Bookings offers a 2, 4 or 6 hour historical, and cultural tour of the island.

Here is an amazing 1945 black&white film (discovered via blog.nuclearsecrecy.com) that shows the preparation of the bomb on the same field you'll be able to visit while on Tinian.

About Rota

Rota (Chamorro: Luta) also known as the peaceful island, is the southernmost island of the United States Commonwealth of the Northern Mariana Islands (CNMI) and the second southernmost of the Marianas Archipelago. It lies approximately 40 miles north-northeast of the United States territory of Guam. Songsong village is the largest and most populated followed by Sinapalo village (Sinapalu).

Rota is approximately 11 miles (17 km) long and 3 miles (5 km) wide. Its coastline is about 38 miles (62 km) long. The highest point on Rota is Mt. Manira which is 1,625 feet (495 m) high. Rota is 47 miles (76 km) north of Guam, and is 63 miles (101 km) south of Tinian and is 73 miles (117 km) south of Saipan. Rota has diverse flora and fauna.

SaipanBookings can arrange a unique tour of Rota. Please inquire for details.

Pagan and the Northern Islands

About The Northern Islands

The 14-island chain that comprises the Commonwealth of the Northern Mariana islands geographically consists of two subgroups, (1) a northern group of ten volcanic main islands, all of which are currently uninhabited ("The Northern Islands"); and a southern group of five islands (Rota, Aguijan, Tinian and Saipan), all inhabited except Aguijan. In the northern volcanic group a maximum elevation of about 2,700 feet (820 m) is reached; there are craters showing signs of activity, and earthquakes are not uncommon. Near the islands can be found the lowest point on the surface of the Earth's crust, the Mariana Trench. Expeditions to the Northern islands (including Pagan) have been organized. Currently, no regular flights or boats to the islands are offered.

Managaha Island

Just off the west coast of Saipan is beautiful Managaha, Voted one of the top 3 most beautiful beaches by a Japan magazine, it is a beach lover's paradise! We offer day tours to Managaha!

Discover Saipan Advantage
"Not all tours are created equal!"

Every customer is unique. Some have unusual requests for their visits to Saipan, Tinian, Pagan and Guam--everything from simply fiding unique accommodations and transportation to locating specific individuals for genealogical research, or historical/cultural artifacts for study, to visiting "off limits" areas, and doing unique activities!

Whatever your unique request, my mission is to "make it happen" for you. In the process, I do everything I can --leveraging professional as well as personal contacts, calling in favors, harnessing my experience in unrelated industries and backgrounds--to make your request come true.

As a result, you may end up enjoying a tour experience that doesn't currently exist, and that likely will not be offered to anyone else in the future in quite the same way!

That's my Discover Saipan advantage, and that's what you pay for!
